Endometrial stromal sarcoma in combination with mixed type endometrial carcinomas

RATIONALE Endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) is rare, representing only approximately 0.2% of all uterine malignancies. Mixed type endometrial carcinomas (MT-ECs) are rare tumors with both type I and II features, and are difficult to diagnose. Cases of ESS and MT-ECs coexisting in the same patient are extremely rare. This study aimed to describe a case of ESS in combination with MT-ECs in a 47-y...

CD10 expression in the neuroendocrine carcinoma component of endometrial mixed carcinoma: association with long survival

BACKGOUND Endometrial mixed carcinoma with the neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) component is rare and is believed to have a poor prognosis. CD10 expression is reported to be a favorable prognostic marker for some tumors such as B-lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma, but unfavorable for others. Here, we report the case of a 33-year-old woman diagnosed with endometrial mixed carcinoma with the NEC comp...

Treatment of endometrial carcinoma.

The optimal treatment for endometrial carcinoma is radical hysterectomy and hemivaginectomy with pre-operative caesium sources in the uterus and vaginal vault. Block pelvic lymphadenectomy is unsatisfactory, and gland extension is best treated by radiotherapy to the lateral pelvic and para-aortic fields. Surgery has a definite place in the treatment of advanced cases.

Allelotype of endometrial carcinoma.

An allelotype analysis of endometrial carcinoma was undertaken to identify chromosomal loci that are relevant to this tumor type. A total of 70 highly polymorphic microsatellite markers, distributed among all nonacrocentric chromosome arms, were examined for evidence of loss of heterozygosity or allelic imbalance in DNA samples from matched normal and tumor tissues. An average of 21 informative...

Risk analysis of colorectal cancer in women with endometrial carcinoma.

Endometrial carcinoma (EC) and colorectal cancer (CRC) are closely linked in a well-documented, predominantly inherited cancer syndrome known as hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC). Epidemiological studies report that women with EC have a 1.5- to 3-fold increased risk of developing CRC. However, this elevated risk could be the consequence of genetic confounding. In order to plan ...
